Registers of the Harp

Did you know that the harp can sound very different, depending on the range?

I categorize the harp range into four registers: Low, Mid-Low, Mid, and High.

Be sure to safe this post for future reference! P.S. If you’re a patron at the Harp Tip Squad level or higher, check out the video I just shared to demonstrate the sound in the different registers!

Low: wire strings, loud and metallic sound, easy to crash against each other.

Mid-low: large gut strings, warmer sound, very resonant. This register tends to have the “muddy” sound I described in an earlier post.

Mid: clearest range. This range has the best balance between resonance and clarity

High: Not much sustain, but a more piercing sound. This range tends to project well in large ensembles.
